Emojis in Email: Love It or Over It?

I loved her so much that I dressed as her for Halloween 2017 🤷🏻‍♀️ (woman shrugging)

It was probably one of my most engaged series of posts on my Instagram at the time.

A hand or two were raised and led to a few curious questions at the job 🙋🏻‍♀️ (woman raising hand).

With all the different poses available, I could easily respond with a simple action 💁🏻‍♀️ (woman tipping hand).

It was fun to see a colleague take it a step further and turn emoji-me into a Slack reaction.

I can’t help but wonder if my emoji is still being used in that company’s Slack channel!

Thanks to an Android user who said, “I don’t get it,” I quickly realized my emoji game wasn’t landing with everyone 🤦🏻‍♀️ (woman facepalming), confirming that emojis can look different across devices.

It’s funny how, years later, I’m repurposing content that once resonated with a different audience and channel 👩🏻‍💻 (woman technologist).

So whether you’re an emoji enthusiast who dreams of embodying one for a day or you’re just rolling your eyes at the thought, I hope this example serves as inspiration for your next email (or Halloween costume).

I try new tools and tactics in email and you reply with your thoughts.
Your input drives the email experiment.

I once dressed as the Woman emoji for Halloween, learning that emojis don’t look the same on all devices! Now, I’m repurposing that experience for a new audience. Whether you love emojis or not, a well-placed one can add personality and help your email stand out.
